Diablo 4 The Third Blade Drops and U4GM Tips

Learn the quickest ways to get Diablo 4's The Third Blade: target Astaroth, use Belial's rewards, and trade boss trophies for extra Unique rolls.

For a Barbarian, The Third Blade can turn a clunky Weapon Mastery setup into something that feels far more responsive. It shifts those skills into the Core category, removes their cooldowns, makes them spend Fury, and raises their damage well above the usual value. Before you sink hours into random runs, it helps to know where the weapon actually comes from. Checking available D4 items can also help you compare what fits your Fury plan while you work toward the sword. The most reliable route starts with Astaroth trophies, not with hoping for one lucky chest.

Build up Astaroth trophies first

Every Escalating Nightmare clear gives you two useful things: a shot at The Third Blade and a likely Ash of the Charred Duke drop. Those ashes matter because five of them can be taken to the Horadric Cube for the Amalgamation recipe. The recipe pulls one random Unique from Astaroth's collection. It does not promise the sword on the first try, but it turns repeated clears into steady progress. That's why this route feels better than just running ordinary dungeons and crossing your fingers.

Run the dungeon at the right tier

You'll need an Escalation Sigil to enter an Escalating Nightmare. Horadric Strongrooms can provide one, or five normal dungeon keys can be turned into an Escalation Key through the Cube. The activity has three floors, and each one gets rougher. Stay on Torment 1 or above. At the end, Exalted Astaroth appears alongside the Amalgam of Rage, so save your strongest cooldown-free Fury spending for that fight. Lower difficulties may feel quicker, yet they are not the place to chase this loot pool.

Use Belial when time is tight

Belial offers a shorter option for players who don't fancy another full three-floor run. Find him in the Palace of the Deceiver in northern Kehjistan's Amber Sands, west of Tarsarak. After the fight, use Superior Lair Keys, also called Betrayer's Husks, at his reward chest and select Astaroth's pool. Death Toll Chambers and regular Lair Bosses are solid sources for those keys.

Keep a simple farming rhythm

A practical session can look like this.

  • Clear Escalating Nightmares for direct Astaroth rewards.
  • Collect every Ash of the Charred Duke.
  • Use Belial keys when you want a quicker Astaroth pool roll.
  • Transmute five Ashes as soon as you have them.

Make every run count

Don't treat a missed sword drop as a wasted run. Astaroth clears feed the Ash collection, while Belial gives you another focused way to chase the same pool. If you're weighing upgrades between sessions, browsing D4 items buy options may help you spot gaps in the rest of your build. Keep your keys, sigils, and Fury setup ready, and The Third Blade becomes a much more realistic goal.
